Was the phone all the way off when you removed the card? I don't think
phones have hot-plug capability.
Did you use some Windows thing for the backup that might have written a
file to the card ("Backup completed 8/25/18" or equivalent) or changed
it in some other way? Find the newest file on the card and check. Look
at the invisible files too. Can you tell if any of the permissions changed?

If it was doing that surely it would have thrown up some sort of
message. Or it should have :-(
