Manufacturers used to value their trademarks and compete on quality. Nowadays too many compete on price, with similar products from competing manufacturers all made in the same third-world factories, where different labels are slapped on minutely differing batches of the same crap. The value of most trademarks is now zero to all but a few consumers who still maintain an unrequited legacy brand loyalty.
