Why do we look for water when searching for extraterrestrial life? <https://io9.gizmodo.com/5728932/why-do-we-look-for-water-when-searching-for-extraterrestrial-life> Why do scientists look for things like water and oxygen when they talk about life on a different planet? <https://www.quora.com/Why-do-scientists-look-for-things-like-water-and-oxygen-when-they-talk-about-life-on-a-different-planet> Jupiter's Icy Moon Europa: Best Bet for Alien Life? https://www.space.com/26905-jupiter-moon-europa-alien-life.html Why is water vital to life? https://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/earth/geophysics/water-vital-to-life.htm The list is near endless. It's not just water of course, they're stuck on the blinkered idea that life elsewhere must be like life on Earth, so to them that means water, oxygen, a "Goldilocks" planet in just the "right" position from the system's star, etc., etc., etc. Life in the universe is going to be spectacularly varied in type and requirements (as well as thinly spread), just as life within Earth's boundaries is. Numerous times the blinkered scientists have said that life can't exist somewhere on Earth, only to discover that something living does exist there when someone has the intelligence to actually look.
