kmail for gmail?

I hate the web-based gmail!

But I can't get kmail to handle gmail.

These days gmail is very security-conscious, so that when I try to
use konqueror for my wifes gmail, it's a problem.
Apparently because the settings have become known for my account.
And the same problem when I go back from her account to mine.

Accessing gmail for any *new* client is a problem.
When I look with the *old* client gmail tells me:
  <some one was trying to access your account N minutes ago>.

kmail -v    
 shows:
Qt: 4.5.1  KDE: 4.2.4 (KDE 4.2.4)   KMail: 1.11.4

Since konqueror has a problem switching to the second account,
is this problem cause by gmail, and making gmail not possible to be
connected by kmail ?
