Ordinarily, I would not contribute to a thread by Heating, Ventilation,
and Air Conditioning (HVAC), but this time the issue is potentially
important enough that I will hole my nose and proceed.

The government HAS spent money on ESP and telepathy research.  During
the NASA Apollo program, a group of astronauts, specifically Ed Mitchell
and others during the Apollo 14 moon flight, conducted off-the-record
experiments in telepathic communication.  These surreptitious experiments
were done with the full knowledge and consent of Deke Slayton, the
chief of the NASA astronaut office.

This was indeed a criminal breach.  An investigation should have been
instituted  and all those found to be involved should have been expelled
from the astronaut corps and barred from all future government positions. 

NASA is devoted to strict scientific pursuits and to have renegades from
within violate the sacrosanct principles of science is a serious demerit
to the organization.

ESP.  Telepathy.  Pffft!  This stuff is the province of sexually repressed
schoolgirls.
