GCC can optimize cache usage if it knows the cache parameters. On Gentoo Linux, programs can be compiled with "-march=native": # gcc -march=native -E -v - </dev/null 2>&1 | grep cc1 ... --param l1-cache-size=32 --param l1-cache-line-size=64 --param l2-cache-size=8192 ... Note the flags that indicate the cache parameters. However, other distros *must* be one-size-fits-all-idiots. They will build with "-mtune=generic": # gcc -mtune=generic -E -v - </dev/null 2>&1 | grep cc1 ... ... Duh? Duh? Where's the cache parameters? They's not there. Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Proper cache utilization can make a SIGNIFICANT difference in program efficiency. If you want garbage, if you want shit, then DO NOT use Gentoo. The case is closed. Hail Linux! Hail GNU and the FSF! Hail Stallman! Fuck all those who support the technological slavery of Microshit/Apphole!
