Well, s/he's got to have fingers, at least.  And probably, eyes.

So likeliest, s/he's either a vertebrate or a cephalopod.

Caution: thread drift ahead ...

There's an episode of _Doctor Who_ called "The Lazarus
Experiment."  The eponymous Professor Lazarus, at the age of 76,
invents a gizmo that reduces his age to thirty or so (I could
look up the actor's age at the time of filming, but I won't).
But the technique is unstable, and he keeps morphing into a
mixture of humanoid and scorpion.

And the Doctor says, "He's regressing back to an ancestral form."

But vertebrates are deuterostomes, and arthropods are protostomes
(look them up at your leisure), and to find a common ancestor you
would have to regress back to the Urbilaterian (look him up too),
which no one has found any traces of, though some of the
Edicarian fauna *might* serve, if we had more specimens.

So every time I watch it, and it's one of my favorite episodes, I
keep muttering, "It's not *science* fiction, it's Doctor Who."
