He used to post to rec.arts.writing, and perhaps still does (I haven't looked at it in a long time). Rather like the days when female SF writers wrote under male names because the readership were, or at least were assumed to be, 100% male, 99% of those teenagers to whom girls were _terra incognita._ On a slightli divergent note, I saw _Jumanji_ last night, and it's a hoot. You all probably know already that it's four candidates for the Breakfast Club turned into avatars in a video game, giving four actors marvelous opportunities to act like what they don't look like. But the thing that struck me was that the NPCs all act like NPCs; what they can say and do is limited to their scripts. Excellent CGI, too; there were a lot of jaguars in the final scenes and, since I refuse to believe that the studio let real jaguars attack elephants and humans (and get trashed for doing so), somebody worked hard on the CGI jaguars. We were wondering on the way home how you'd past ping-pong balls all over a jaguar. Perhaps the computer was simply given a map of every spot on the real jaguar's hide? -- Dorothy J.
