The Touch Bar can do Touch ID, but it is also used for a lot of other,
mostly useless and pointless, functions. It was really added as a
gimmick and a testbed for replacing the laptop's keyboard with a
customisable touch-screen*. In both cases it failed, so the Touch Bar
is likely to disappear simply because very few people bother to use it,
as well as not being available on a desktop Mac nor most of Apple's
laptops.

* If you listen very carefully you can hear the idiot Johny Ive chanting
"Thinner, thinner!" every time you look at the Touch Bar.
