I am developing for ARM both professionally and in spare time. I develop and test everything under Windows. When ready for integration tests I compile for ARM. Usually I am using a cross-compiler hosted on an x86 machine. ARM emulators are not really suitable for anything serious. In other cases I am using a native tool-chain under Debian and/or Fedora, instead of cross, but then not on the target ARM, but on a more powerful one like ODROID. Cross GCC tool-chain is quite difficult to get working. Mine is from a commercial vendor. So a native one would probably be a better choice to begin with. ODROID is inexpensive. P.S. I write in Ada, so it is 100% portable. With C everything gets much more complicated, but for what it is worth... -- Regards, Dmitry A. Kazakov http://www.dmitry-kazakov.de
