Last weekend I bought a 6 year old computer with an Intel I7-965 cpu and two AMD Crossfire HD-5970 graphics cards each with 2GB of DDR5 ram. It has an MSI motherboard and 6GB of ram. It was originally a gaming computer but I am interested in using the machine for number crunching. I have started reading the text OpenCL by Example, but before I get too far into it I would like someone to tell me if I am wasting my time with the hardware. So far the text only refers to AMD HD6xxx and HD7xxx cards. I am particularly attracted by the specs that say each of the cards is capable of 4.5Tflops. Thanks for any advice.
