Don, do I understand right you will be using POE?
There are some catches there too.
I ran into this:
The simple ebay ethernet modules with an ENC28J60 controller:

  those use this connector:

Note the 75 Ohm resistors between pin 7 and 8 (POE -) and pin 4 and 5 (POE +).

There is, it seems, lots of stuff around that has those connectors.

If you put 48 V on that, then it sees 150 Ohm, (48*48)/150 = 15.36 W generated in that connector.
So it could cause damage to somebodies stuff if they plug it in and has that connector or a similar one.
I am replacing all those connectors by HLJ6115ANL, also because it has 7,8 and 4,5 accessible and I need that to get the POE.

But that is not something you can do with just any laptop... you plug in.
