It's basically unreadable and unmaintainable by anyone but him. But that doesn't make it shitty (or slow or inefficient) - that just makes it kooky and oddly formatted. But I have an idea. A little test that might reveal something about the efficiency of his code. Hopefully it will shut your stupid ass up, too. Relf, If you're reading, write a C or C++ command-line program to implement the Shannon entropy formula and results found here: http://www.shannonentropy.netmark.pl It's a tiny program - around 50 lines probably - and won't take you long to do, if you're interested. It should take as input a string of alpha characters, and output the letter count, a header row, a frequency table, the Shannon entropy, and the metric entropy, similar to this: $ ./entropy Abbcccdddd1223334444 20 characters in 'Abbcccdddd1223334444' # Char Freq Dist D*log2(D) H(X) sum -- ----- ---- ------ ---------- ---------- 1 A 1 0.050 -0.216 0.21610 2 b 2 0.100 -0.332 0.54829 3 c 3 0.150 -0.411 0.95883 4 d 4 0.200 -0.464 1.42322 5 1 1 0.050 -0.216 1.63932 6 2 2 0.100 -0.332 1.97151 7 3 3 0.150 -0.411 2.38205 8 4 4 0.200 -0.464 2.84644 The Shannon entropy of your message is 2.84644 The metric entropy of your message is 0.14232 Post your platform independent source, written in your usual style with the weird loops and the macros, please. But nothing (or as little as possible) Windows-specific. I did it some months ago and posted my code here, so if you're aware please don't even look at my code. I want your 'clean room' version.
