I looked into the matter and I can't help but notice that if the USB key
is inserted into a different port, it seems to work without any kind of
issue. My laptop has six different USB port (4 on the left, 2 on the
right) and essentially should all work in the same fashion but I get the
impression that some of them receive less power than the others and
therefore can't load up the liveUSB key. They're probably fine for
connecting a device but not for powering one up; this is an issue I've
seen in the past for peripherals which were plugged into a USB port that
had been split with a hub of some sort.
