As it is, companies seem to prefer DirectX which makes porting a difficult process. If, however, they consider their options and realize how much smarter using Vulkan would be, then Linux might actually have a chance to get gaming users and therefore to become a much more viable platform for whichever developer resists at first. It won't happen though. I've already seen Mantle fail in a short period of time so there's no reason to believe Vulkan will fare better. Besides, Linux doesn't do its users many favours in having certain things not work in one version and then working again in the next only to become completely non-functional in the one after that.
