You're talking about circular polarization. Haven't you heard of linear polarization? That is transverse and determined by an alignment of the electric field of all the photons in the beam. Of course BaTh says that photon merge into a kind of medium that they carry along with them and form into broader wavefronts in that medium...but it can still be transversely polarized...not sure about circularly though. > A light BEAM can have a transverse linear polarization, because it > can consist of an appropriate superposition of photons with > helicities +1 and -1.
