"Jamie Kahn Genet" wrote | > Adblock. | | I'd have thought a 'power user' could figure simple stuff like this out. He's not asking how to block the ads. He's wondering why they vary. It seems an interesting question to me, but I don't have anything other than Windows computers, and I only see what I can download with Download Helper, so I don't know anything about Youtube ad injection, addition, or whatever it is they're doing. I've never seen such ads. I have noticed that some videos can't be downloaded with Download Helper, which raises a vague error along the lines of "it may be protected content". I wonder how that works. It's all protected content insofar as Google/Youtube put a lot of work into obfuscating the file source. But they're all still downloaded files, so I don't understand why DH can't get around some obstacles but can get around others. It seems to me the "artists" would be better served adding the ads to the video itself and then allowing direct download. Then again, maybe that's already the case. I don't follow Taylor Swift so I don't know whether her videos show her drinking Coke(R) or using Clearasil(R). :)
