This is flat out wrong.

The fact is that the more "off topic" stuff you include in your post, the
*more* likely it is that people will respond.

In fact, the real problem with forums in general, Usenet in more
specificity, and this newsgroup in particular, is that unless you include
soemthing for people to nitpick (i.e., something that is "wrong"), people
will usually just ignore your post.
