What makes you think they must be in a circular orbit? YOU did mark the distances as "r", what is used for circular orbits. For ellipses, than replace the radius r with the major semi axis a and the relations between G.M, T and "a" will remain. But v can be calculated only for a specific point on the orbit, not for the orbit itself.
