You cannot use a third party box with Optimum, their service only works 
with the boxes you have to rent from them.  DOCSIS is not the same but 
I'm not familiar with that.  As for those Samsung boxes being terribly 
lagging, that was a software issue.  They put the boxes into use too 
soon.  They've improved the software but too late for me to stay with 
their service.
