Heathkit was a fantastic company back in the day, I was very sad to see Zenith destroy them, although the death slide really started with MS stole Gordon Letwin from them. Built H8, H89, H150 systems, along with stereo amplifiers, ham radio gear, CRT monitors and a color TV set from them over the years, perhaps more I've forgotten. All great stuff, wonderfully well- documented also. Their self-paced home instruction course materials in electronics, software development and related topics were all top grade also. I first learned Z89 assembly under HDOS when I was around 13 years old. No videos, no web site tutorials, just wonderfully written learning textbooks with great exercises. The local user group communities in cities with a Heathkit store in them were all extremely helpful as well. We'll never see the like of that again, I'm afraid. -- Randy Howard (replace the obvious text in the obvious way if you wish to contact me directly)
