Possibly. My memory fails. I have the SuSE Linux Pro 8.0 box set which I
believe was 2001. It has 6 CDs plus a DVD should one have the capability
as well as manuals. I bought it off the shelf at BestBuy.

I no longer have the box but I believe I had Mandrake 7.0.

At 33 seconds, he shows the 7.0 box where the penguin has a magic wand. I
believe he lost the wand in later editions as the Mandrake the Magician
copyright problem started. That would be 2000.

My first was Slackware, downloaded floppy by floppy from the ftp server
over dialup. Anything that came in a box was welcome. I think Yggdrasil
was the first with a CD offering.

When I started with the company I retired from in '99 I used Red Hat
Linux. iirc I got a hand me down machine with it installed. I didn't
really like GNOME and getting KDE up was tedious. The gcc 2.96 fiasco was
the last straw for RHL.

Anyway it's much easier today and 'beginners distro' doesn't mean much
with the exception of LFS, Gentoo, or the classic Arch install.
