The same space occupancy is not the visual 4 cm apart but the Magnetic Field is invisible. Aha. So now since the magnetic field extends through all space, then as long as the two magnets are ANY distance apart, then as far as you're concerned they are occupying the same space. But let's look at this logically. You say that the electric force cannot repel but it can attract. But the electric field extends through all space the same way the magnetic field does.
