As written, you used at least 6 lines, and you didn't complete the task:
you had to declare and split the string to populate 2, 4 or 6 discrete
variables named fld1, val1, fld2, val2, fld3, val3.

Of course it needs refinement; look who wrote it. You're fired for

I don't know perl at all, but it's probably as bad as your LibreOffice
'Make Dollars and Cents' FAIL code. That pile of crap had 6 FAILS in 20
lines.
