I have suggested one by Isaac Asimov that is essentially all words and
pictures, with a bare minimum of arithmetic. It is a very fast read and
is available for only $12 from Amazon.

I think what we will discover is that John prefers to spend his time
either with AutoCAD or on sci.physics, making posts about herpes and
UFOs and government conspiracies and how useless and lost physics is,
rather than actually learning anything about physics.

It would be like his hanging around my shop all day, ostensibly to learn
something about woodworking, and instead talking about politics,
religion, and how useless being a woodworker is. And he wouldn't ever
take the hint that such behavior is really inappropriate in a
woodworker's shop.
