Well, I presumed this would eventually come to pass, but I also
presumed from the 'motherboard' perspective that it would hang around
longer, simply because it is not that 'big' for 'motherboard' form
factors (excluding rPi size boards).  For the current crop of Apple
clones of _how thin can we go_ laptops, I see the desire to drop the
port.

Sadly, an enormous amount of secondary equipment will now also be
rendered obsolete and will start migrating to the pile of toxic waste
in India/China where old electronics go to steep posions into the
environment, simply because some 'big boss' can no longer plug his new
laptop into the conference room projector (or some other item).

Thankfully, for those of us who are more clueful, there are hdmi->vga
and display port->vga adaptors, but now we have to carry around (or
have handy) one more adapter to plug in a slightly older (but fully
working) screen or projector or whatever.
