I think we're just reiterating some confusion on your part about what a 
model is. To you a visual is a model. It is NOT what is meant by "model" 
by a physicist. Mathematics is a LANGUAGE, John. Physicists describe 
their model using that LANGUAGE. The fact that you do not speak that 
language does not turn the model into handwaving, it just means that you 
don't understand the language. You've complained that physicists should 
translate their language into something that you can absorb, but that's 
not a rational or realistic ask, and so why is that suddenly hand-waving?
