A Steam machine is nothing more than a properly-configured Linux box and
indeed offers you nothing more than the crap currently being shoveled
down Linux gamers' throats.

They're not cheaper. If anything, not even the cost of the operating
system is removed from the machine. You are essentially buying a
heavily-compromised Windows box except that we don't even know if it
will allow you to easily install Windows once you realize that you are
not being offered decent titles on the original machine.
