I suppose, but I suspect I have done this before.

Sometimes I would rather make two simpler statements instead
of one complicated one. That usually means assigning to some
variable and then using the result in the next statement. 

I suspect that is the case here. 

So, yes, it would be better to use a separate variable, that
is only used once, for the value used as the argument of sqrt.
The additional bytes are small enough now, though many years
ago they would have been significant.

I suspect with an appropriate comment, and if the argument
comes from the immediate preceding statement, one could live with it.

Conceptually required, but that adds complication. More variables
for the human reader to keep track of.

What is wrong with this one?

Also, numerically suspect in many cases.
