Actually they did.
All their proof was based on computer ANIMATIONS.

Which they could create and manipulate any way hey wanted,....Just like 
Chuck Jones could make the road runner go right through a painted hole in a 
cliff wall.
Reality didn't matter as long as the "research" reached the result they 
decided in advance.

That type of psedo-science is done all the time. And after 9/11 it came in 
handy.
Only thing they had to do was keep the models away from scrutiny of 
engineers who would have pointed out the modeling physics flaws instantly.
.....And to this day no one has even been able to evaluate the programs they 
used.
