Hell. You are on windows 8 and using a six+ year old development version
of gnuplot? :-)

I'd recommend you get yourself the latest 5.0.1.
If you want to be sure old scripts work exactly like before, use 4.6.6
(4.6.7 has no windows binary). Going back to 4.4.4 or even 4.2.6 might
again lead into problems, e.g. with the old libglib binaries that are
probably causing of your current trouble.

5.0 changed the standard colours, and there are a few incompatible
syntax changes, which aren't hard to fix. Check the release notes.
