The part where you make the leap from "living your life every day
without purpose" to "being a walking dead zombie."

It probably was suggested to me long before it could occur to me on
its own, but either way I've filed it under "stuff that some people
believe, but I'm not aware of any reason for me to believe it."

Does the word "God" mean the same thing in both of its appearances
in that sentence?  The first usage looks likes a reference to a
self-aware, self-directed entity (e.g., the "God" or "The Lord"
character in the Christian Bible), while the second, though still
capitalized, looks like it's just the "anthropomorphizing" of a
concept, as in "The only god he believed in was money," which does
not imply that money is a thinking, acting being.
