So? Are we the morality police? Why would somebody bother to steal a
no-name non-working tablet? OTOH, we went back later in the day to buy
a $10 yard-sale computer only to find that some jerk had stolen its hard
drive.

We buy dirt-cheap computers all the time, or at least we used to. We're
full up right now. Some have really nice cases, some have a good power
supply or motherboard, some have dead drives, but on balance it's a
useful thing to do if you don't need bleeding-edge hardware. Right now
we've got 6 working computers on our home network. Why? Because we
can! (Not all are running, of course, but they could!)

> Gotta ask, why didn't you check it before buying it?

Stuff at yard sales frequently has dead or missing batteries. This
doesn't mean they're bad, it just means you can't prove they work. You
make an offer accordingly. People are really stupid. If they'd just
put a couple of AA batteries in the camera they could sell it for a lot
more than the throwaway price sensible people would be willing to pay.

Most annoying thing -- a camera that worked except for the fact that no
known sd card fits its slot. It LOOKED like a normal card hole, but
wasn't. I bought what was supposed to be an adapter, but that didn't
fit either. You can't win 'em all.

Are you one of those people who was so careful with his money that he
could retire at 40? Probably not...
