Better yet - how about SQL where the underlying tables are "abstracted" with a view definition? One of the reasons that computers have emerged out of the dark-ages is that things are now "abstracted" and programmers (real programmers) can focus their efforts on the big-picture instead of minutia and meaningless details. In any GUI based system the mouse has been abstracted just like the GUI, printer, file-system, etc. If you want to know where the mouse is - make an API call to get the position of the mouse cursor. You don't need to know the useless details of what USB identifier is used for the mouse and how to communicate with it. Programmers don't need to know or care what port/ip-address a printer is hooked up to. Just send output to an abstract printer device and it'll just work. Same with the display, file-system, etc. It's all abstracted where the programmer accessing the devices doesn't have to give a crap with the useless minor details. Obviously if you're writing a device driver specific to the device you need to care but I'm talking about the 99.9999% of the people out there who aren't writing a driver for their hardware. Abstraction is a good thing. Being an insane idiot who screams about it isn't so good. >> You are just another brainwashed, deluded idiot that is emotionally >> supported by a community of brainwashed, deluded idiots. > > Says an inflexible wackjob unable to adapt to the modern world. > It's definitely got to be JEDs dad or brother. -- "MacOS is OK for only the most rudimentary tasks" JED - July 4th
