Personally, I rarely ever use root privileges at all ─ I don't see what
I would need them for in my normal day-to-day activity on my own machine
[*] ─ but if and when I do need root privileges, then I will use the
command line, for several reasons.
1. It's significantly more powerful.
2. It's significantly faster.
3. It's more difficult to slip up while typing up a command than when
you're using the mouse. A mouse slip with root privileges can
seriously damage your system. A typo in a shell command can be
easily corrected, and you can always test the command you're about
to execute by typing "echo" in front of it. Comes in very handy
when testing scripts.
[*] In Microsoft Windows, you do regularly need "Administrator"
privileges ─ unless your regular user account is already set up
as an administrative account ─ because Windows was never designed
with security in mind. Hell, it was never even designed to be
an actual operating system. And now that it _is_ an operating
system, it's still the worst one ever designed, even 20+ years
after porting the Windows API to the NT kernel.
