The 11th Battalion of the Australian Imperial Force (AIF) was one of the
first infantry units raised for the Australian Imperial Force during World
War I. They were stationed at Mena Camp near the Great Pyramids in Egypt,
where they trained for the Western Front and Gallipoli. The iconic
photograph of the battalion on the Cheops Pyramid, taken on January 10,
1915, captures the spirit and determination of these soldiers as they
prepared for their future campaigns. The photograph has become a symbol of
the Australian spirit and the sacrifices made by the Anzacs during the war.
