get an appointment 'before' you are ill

I have had quite a bad dose of flu for the last week causing extreme 
aching of my left side face, from my eye through my teeth and neck.  
Saturday and Sunday was so severe that I could not eat, tried every 
tablet going to ease the pain but only Morrison's Paracetamol worked 
and then only for two hours before it wore off and back came the pain 
for another two hours before I could have some more.

Phoned the doctors this morning, they are 500 yards down the road, what 
a performance getting a connection to speak to someone.  Eventually, 
when I did they only had an appointment for Friday at 11.30am, WTF, I'm 
ill now, so much so that I hadn't the strength to walk there anyway.
Does that mean that all those people with appointments today were ill 5 
days ago?

Anyway, managed to get an appointment at 10.00 at their other surgery 5 
miles away, so had to get a taxi as I was not well enough to drive.  
Goes in, doctor says we haven't seen you for 12 years, hope you have 
not been saving up all your ailments for today, I wasn't really in the 
mood for jokes.  He had a feel around my face and neck, pushing his 
fingers in so hard that it hurt a bit, then he opened my mouth and 
poked this bloody great stick straight into my gums.  I jumped up in 
pain, he then felt around my face again and then opened my mouth and 
poked that bloody stick in again, straight at my bottom gums.  I 
grabbed his wrist so hard it made him step back quite startled, bugger 
that I said you're not doing that again, sorry he said didn't mean to 
hurt you, but he had and it was very painful.  Thankfully all sorted 
now, I have got loads of tablets and they are working already as the 
nauseating pain down the side of my face has subsided.
