For the longest time gold coins (American Gold Eagles) were a safe bet but now there's even fake bullion that's out there. Even devices (Gold Coin Balance) that for years were a simple test for authenticity can now be fooled by these counterfeit coins. Real American Gold Eagles still pass the "ping test" which appears to be the only personal device remaining that can tell a real from a fake. <quote> New Counterfeit Bullion in the Diamond District? 29 January, 2014 Recently, we had a counterfeit American Gold Eagle (official bullion coin of the United States) come into our storefront. By using our expert assaying techniques, we found that the coin was actually gold-plated tungsten. Since tungsten and gold weigh the same, these types of counterfeits can be difficult to detect. </quote> http://www.mgsrefining.com/blog/post/2014/01/29/New-Counterfeit-Bullion-in-the-Diamond-District.aspx <quote> NEWS FLASH!!! Goldcoinbalance.com has discovered a fake Gold Eagle one ounce that passes the tests for weight, size and thickness. Our GoldCoinBalance Guarantee has always stated that we would pay the spot gold price for any gold coin that passes all three tests of the GoldCoinBalance. We were so confident in our product's ability to spot the fakes we offered this guarantee. However, we recently received a coin and letter from a customer who had purchased a Gold Coin that passed the tests, but was a FAKE Tungsten Coin. So unfortunately, we can no longer buy Kugerrands or American Eagle Gold Coins that pass the Goldcoinbalance tests. Someone is making Tungsten core fake coins that do pass the test!!! Buyer Beware!! Here is the letter we received from a customer Dear Jared, "First let me say the Gold Coin Balance is a great tool and has helped to easily identify over 10 gold coins as real in just a few seconds. It has also helped me to identify 3 fakes along the way too. The tool has saved me from being scammed for over $3,500. The reason I am sending this 2003 American Gold Eagle to you is because it passed all 3 tests on the Gold Coin Balance, but still does not look 100% correct. </quote> http://www.goldismoney2.com/showthread.php?66683-Fake-2003-Gold-American-Eagle-%28Tungsten-Core%29 -- "I have a BSEE.... Negative feedback has many benefits, but "maintaining stability" is not one of them. Just the opposite, in fact." The turdv idiot and his pretend BSEE degree. "To make systems stable, we use Negative Feedback" MIT - http://web.mit.edu/jamwno/Public/UAT/Jim_Feedback.ppt "Since it's hard to make the op-amp gain stable over all operating conditions *negative feedback* is used to **stabilize** the op-amp" MIT - http://www.mit.edu/~godoy/6098/study/review_all.pdf "Negative feedback is a central concept in the design of linear amplifiers. It enables them to be designed with predictable, precise and **stable** performance." Oxford University - http://www-teaching.physics.ox.ac.uk/practical_course/ELManCh14.pdf "Black used negative feedback, which reduces the gain but makes the amplifier insensitive to variations in tube characteristics. This invention made it possible to build *stable* amplifiers with linear characteristics..." Princeton University - http://press.princeton.edu/chapters/s9493.pdf <quote> (Caltech) Negative Feedback A major breakthrough was invention of the feedback amplifier in 1927 by Harold S. Black. Black used negative feedback which reduces the gain but makes the amplifier very insensitive to variations in tube characteristics. This invention made it possible to build **stable amplifiers** with linear characteristics. Positive Feedback In a system with positive feedback, the increase in some variable or signal leads to a situation in which that quantify is further through its dynamics. This has a **destabilizing** effect and is usually accompanied by a saturation that limits the growth of the quantity. </quote> http://www.cds.caltech.edu/~murray/books/AM05/pdf/am06-complete_16Sep06.pdf <quote> If we introduce positive, or regenerative, feedback into an amplifier circuit, it has the tendency of creating and sustaining oscillations. Negative feedback, on the other hand, has a "dampening" effect on an amplifier. While positive feedback drives an amplifier circuit toward a point of instability (oscillations), negative feedback drives it the opposite direction: toward a point of stability. </quote> http://openbookproject.net/electricCircuits/Semi/SEMI_4.html#xtocid209015 <quote> OSCILLATORS We have already talked about FEEDBACK in terms of NEGATIVE FEEDBACK to stabilize a circuit. We will now cover a new term called POSITIVE FEEDBACK - it changes the performance of circuit completely. It makes the circuit OSCILLATE. Negative feedback "kills" a circuits performance - positive feedback makes it oscillate. </quote> http://www.talkingelectronics.com/projects/TheTransistorAmplifier/TheTransistorAmplifier-P1.html
