I *am* a hardware guy and that is the main reason why I use Forth.  A 
million years ago when I was getting started in Forth I used debug 
monitors to help bring up hardware and debug faults.  The most advanced 
machine I ever worked on didn't even have that, we have very small 
programs called "engineering loops" that would need to be individually 
loaded and run.  We could have saved a lot of time by spending enough 
time up front to write a Forth... heck, we didn't need to write it, we 
could have used FIG Forth.  But I wasn't allowed to think too much in 
that job, plus I didn't really know Forth at all even though I knew 
about it.
