StartPlay kill $bgpid rm -f TimeStamp Or, you could flip it on it's head and run player in background with stamper in fore. #!/bin/sh StartPlay & bgpid=$! # run forever until StartPlay finishes (process no longer exists) while kill -s 0 $bgpid 2>/dev/null;do date >TimeStamp done rm -f TimeStamp
