lynx for LaTex?

Normally, I use `links` for http-fetch [to build a text-book].
But if the fetch contains LaTex, lynx/links can't render it.

Some time ago, according to my logs, I 'discovered' that LaTex
could be viewed by a complex procedure involving dvi?div and kdiv?kdvi
of kde.  Now I'm using another distribution which hasn't got the k???.

But then I remembered that graphic-browsers can render LaTex;
so [konqueror & icecat being occupied} I chrooted an OLD `opera`.

It shows the Latex Math-formular well;
and running in a decades old [Mandrake 9] installation.

What does the old-opera use to render the Latex embedded in the
html?  Why can't I use that too.
Without trying too hard, I failed with: opera <local.tex>
