Yeah, the other person I was talking to (who said he was able to link to
A97 from A13) said he had done it on a pre-release version of A13. When
he tried it again on the current version, he couldn't. So, apparently,
the ability to link to A97 from A13 was originally in A13 (but not the
ability to open an A97 db); but then they took it out in the final version.

As for my situation, I have a workaround worked out. The client needs to
keep the A97 file in place, because he has third party software writing
to it that he can't upgrade. But his new computers have A13 and he
doesn't want to downgrade to A10. So my solution will be to have A10
installed on the machine that has the A97, and create a small db that
links to both the A97 and the A13 back ends. The small db will run
automatically via Scheduler once a day or more, and will copy any new
data from the A97 back end into the A13 back end. That way, he can keep
his A97 file in place for his 3rd party software, but all his users can
access the data in an A13 back end.
