I started doing web development for a few months ago. We have HTML5 and CSS3 selectors, which are both awesome. Java applets, Flash, and Silverlight are fading. We have fun new javascript frameworks like node.js and AngularJS (which makes easy MVC single-page apps in a way that doesn't break the web). Even IE has finally realized that there are general web standards! Javascript has its share of flaws and silly behaviors, but I think a functional, asynchronous language is a good fit for web stuff.
