The Bourne shell (sh) and all shells derived from it support functions.
There is absolutely no need to define shell functions in separate files.
csh and its derivative tcsh don't have functions -- which is one reason
why they're not recommended for use as programming languages. Shells
that *don't* provide functions are the exception.
