Presumably there's *some* performance benefit to inlining a function and
saving the overhead of the call instruction. If you can do it
automatically during compilation rather than by permanently obfuscating
your source code, it makes sense even if the gain is relatively small.
And inlining a function call can produce opportunites for more
optimizations. The caller and the callee become a single single of
code; analyzing that can yield more gains than analyzing each function
in isolation.
