As it is, Microsoft needs to convince the consumers that it not only has an operating system which allows them to take advantage of touch features all the while preserving the usability of a traditional Windows desktop, but also that it can produce the hardware which will give them all of the benefits of an Apple or Android tablet IN ADDITION to the features they've come to expect. Considering people WANT very portable computers with long battery life which also happen to be useful for productivity, it makes sense that Microsoft would produce Windows 8 AND a Surface tablet to go with it. As it is, anyone I've seen who has purchase a Surface Pro thinks they're quite a marvel and probably the most useful computer they've ever owned. With word of mouth, these devices should become a lot more popular.
