On a SUSE box I even figured out how to do the CapsLock/Control switch on the console, though I forget now how I did it. It's nice customizing and little scripts like that are easily bound to keys in most environments. There are some good OS X programs that allow finegrained keyboard modifications though I was too cheap to buy them. On Unix/Linux obviously the sky's the limit ... When I was writing a book I made a backup script and bound it in Windowmaker to F12. With one keypress I could backup the right files, zip it, and send copies to different backup devices. I was really happy with how it worked out.
