So my late 2012 iMac was rocking along just fine until I upgraded to
Mavericks.

Now, about half the times when it comes out of sleep mode, it doesn't
find and connect to my WiFi. I either have to find my SSID in the
networks list or manually turn WiFi off, then on again in system prefs
and it connects.

And yes, I've got the "Remember Networks Joined" box checked and have
tried both checked and unchecked for the "Ask to Join New Networks" box.
I've also tried broadcasting and not broadcasting SSID in router setup.
No difference on any combination of these options.
