Not sure if everyone knows this trick, but if we've got here an audience of techies who likes Usenet, it's worth mentioning so we can all help fill this place with interesting articles to discuss: The Gmane project has for a long time taken mailing lists and made them available on Usenet, but the Gwene project (by the same team) is interesting to us: it takes RSS feeds and provides them over NTTP. Point your newsreader to the news.gmane.org server. You can use whatever user name you want because you won't be posting, just reading. Here are some NTTP "newsgroups" whose content come from RSS feeds: gwene.org.soylentnews : the Soylent feed (just created today) gwene.com.ycombinator.news : the news.ycombinator feed (hacker news) gwene.net.technocrat : Perens new technocrat.net site RSS gwene.org.slashdot : Slashdot, stripped of HTML. Pretty easy to monitor those feeds for interesting articles and post them to comp.misc for discussion. This works for any site you want: go to www.gwene.org where you can input the URL of any RSS feed and have an NTTP "newsgroup" created. Cool stuff. Happy reading.
