Trying to give a 2006 Macbook (MB) to someone who prefers Mac but has
been stuck with Windows XP for a long time.

So I want to set Bootcamp (BS) and install Windows XP Pro with her
product key.

Advice at any step of the process would be welcome....

Made a 10.7 install stick (this MB can't do 10.8).

Made a data partition, an HFS+ journaled partition named MacOS, and a
FAT32 partition named WINDOWS, all the same size in an external drive.

Took my drive out of the MB and put in the one just made.

Installed 10.7 from the stick onto the MacOS partition, which carved a
small space off the WINDOWS partition for the Recovery partition.

Did all available updates (firmware already latest).

Looked up the Bootcamp info and put the manual in iBooks on my iPad.

Says that WinXP requires bootcamp 3. Doesn't say "(or later)." Will it
work with BC 4? Documents make it sound like the assistant is going to
give me BC 4.

Documents also assume I plan to do Windows 7. Are there things in the
BC Guide that will have to be done differently?

Apple web page says that I will need XP drivers from the installation
DVD that came with the computer. I have no idea where that is. Any
other place to find a copy (with minimal risk of malware)?

Decided to go ahead and set up the Windows partition with the BC
assistant. Assistant said "startup partition has to be HFS extended" !

I don't want to use the startup partition, so I reformatted the Windows
partition with Disk Utility (DU), then tried to "restore" the MacOS
partition into it. "Can't use startup as Source. Try doing it from
recovery HD." Well, the Recovery DU said the partition was too small!

It's a 130 K smaller than the MacOS which has more than seven GB free !
Does a DU restore use block copy?

So I tried to install MacOS on that partition. Did the full download
and reboot, and went through the install. When the progress bar got all
the way to the end, it said "Can't install. The disk is damaged."

Have an install from the USB running now; fingers crossed that the
messge is wrong. (No errors from the formatting earlier)

VirtualBox (VB) is already installed, but since I have had Solaris and
RedHat installs fail on VB, I don't want her to be dependent on it.
